About University of Allahabad :
There are three distinct phases in the evolution of the University. In the first phase (1887 to 1921), it was a centrally-funded Affiliating University exercising jurisdiction over higher and secondary education in a wide area in northern and central India, comprising the present-day States of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan and the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

In 1905 it initiated teaching and research under its ownaegis, by establishing the Departments of Law (1905), Economics (1908) History (1912), research fellowships, libraries and laboratories. The eminence of the faculty of its teaching Departments, the Muir Central College (the premier affiliate, founded in 1873 at Allahabad) and several other reputed Affiliated Colleges, earned high regard for the University within and outside India. Some of the Colleges themselves matured into Universities the Banaras Hindu University (1916), the Aligarh Muslim University (1920) and the Lucknow and Nagpur Universities (1920 and 1923).

Admission to above employment oriented program will be made on the basis of past academic record, Entrance (on mental ability) Test and Interview.

This employment oriented Postgraduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) is being offered by the premier University of India, the Allahabad University as one of its Central Facilities, housed in the GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT which is the first department of geography in India which offers doctoral programmes in Mapping Sciences and Master’s level programme in various branches of this discipline i.e. Remote Sensing and GIS. This diploma course is open to Graduates in any discipline of this University or of any other recognised University. Preference will be given to students having knowledge of computer and mathematics.

Eligibility:
1. The admissions to all the seats of the Diploma Course will be held on the basis of the merit determined on a 100-point scale based on applicant’s academic record, knowledge of computer, mathematics and performance in the written test (only objective type question related to mental ability and reasoning will be asked) and interview for aptitude evaluation.
2. The results of the admission will be displayed on the notice board of the Department of Geography of this University.

Admission to above employment oriented programme will be made on the basis of combined merit, entrance (on mental ability) and interview. Graduates (in any discipline) from the recognized universities can apply on forms available from the department on payment of Rs. 300/-.

2. Admit card for written test and interview will not be issued. Postage receipt (for outstation candidates) or receipt issued by this department (for local candidates) will be treated as admit card for written test.
3. Date of written test (Reasoning & Mental ability) and interview of all candidates: October 04, 2009 (Sunday), Time: 8:00 A.M. and Venue: Department of Geography, University of Allahabad.
4. List of selected candidates for admission will be announced on October 10, 2009.
5. Date of admission of the selected candidates & submission of Course Fee: 12-10-2009. To 17-10-2009.
