About NITK :
The National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, formerly known as KREC, is a premier autonomous university along the western shores of India. It was founded in July 1960, as a joint venture between the Government of Karnataka and the Government of India, originally under the name Karnataka Regional Engineering College, Surathkal (KREC).

Karnataka Regional Engineering College began in 1960, through the efforts of U. Srinivas Mallya and V.S.Kudva. The foundation stone was laid on August 6, 1960. KREC began with three under-graduate courses in engineering: Mechanical, Electrical , and Civil, with affiliation to the University of Mysore. 1965 saw the beginning of undergraduate courses in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering.

Details:
This Innovation challenge is intended to spread Entrepreneurial spirit among students. The event format is as follows:
1) Submit an idea – Build a complementary team and submit a one page idea summary.
2) Preliminary results – Four promising ventures each will get a seed grant of Rs. 20,000 to test and develop their idea.
3) Mentorship – A seasoned Tech Entrepreneur will give you feed back and Introductions.
4) Business Plan Coaching – A coach helps you ask the right questions and build a strong business plan.
5) Workshop (Refine your idea) – A business re-modeling workshop in January will help you interpret ground level insights.
6) Grand Finale – Finalists invest four months in an iterative process of picking up ground level feed-back , and refining
their business Idea. In February 2010, a senior VC panel will select the winning team, to take home Rs.100,000, in-kind support to get the idea of the ground and potential funding.

Eligibility:
Each team should have atleast one current NITK student

Important Dates:
Last date for submission of idea: September 20, 2009
Preliminary results will be announced: October 20, 2009
