About Science olympiad foundation :
SOF is a registered not-for-profit organization popularising science, mathematics and computer education among school children. A non-profit organization established by leading academicians, scientists and media personalities with the aim of promoting science, mathematics and computer education, the Science Olympiad Foundation has been striving for over a decade to promote scientific attitude through innovative activities and use of IT in learning process that involve school students across the country.
In the present times when the world is totally pivoted on science and IT, it is pertinent to think and plan about the future – a future in which the children of the present shall be the leaders of tomorrow. Regular qualitative and quantitative assessment needs to be done at the national level in order to build up the scientific and IT talent pool. It is in this sphere that the role of SOF has been much appreciated over these last few years, so much so that highly reputed organizations like WIPRO, LG, Reliance, Aakash Institute, Vidyalankar Dnyanapeeth Trust, Resonance and MTG Learning Media have volunteered to support SOF’s various programmes.
The Science olympiad foundation is organizing the 12th National Science Olympiad .Students from classes 2nd to 12th are invited to participate in the national level competition.The competition is in two levels.he first level of the test is organized in the respective schools of the participants during the school hours.The level 1 competition is a written objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 2 to class 12.The question paper consists of Science and Mental Ability section.There are separate question papers for each class.The medium of the test is English. (v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabus is followed for setting the test papers.Top 500 students along with all school-toppers (with minimum 25 students enrolled from particular class) of level 1 qualify for the level 2 from each class. For the level 2, admit card containing all information regarding exam centre, date, timing, etc. is issued to the qualified students through their respective schools.
The top 500 (total 6500) winners (class-wise) are also endowed with cash prizes and scholarships, courtesy of the official sponsor.All participants selected for Level II are awarded Certificates of Merit indicating their performance in the Level II.Every participant who scores 50% or more in Level I is awarded a Certificate of Participation. School/College of each medal winning participant of the final round is awarded the ‘Intellect Trophy’ for having groomed and nurtured the talent.The syllabus details can be found on the website.
The event is open to the students of classes 2 to 12 and registrations are received from the schools in the prescribed pro-forma. Registration sheet for the school / students and the information booklet are posted to the schools all over India.
