About National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal   :
The National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 was enacted by the Parliament of India to declare India’s National Institutes of Technology as Institutes of National Importance. The Act received the assent of the President of India on 5 June 2007 and became effective on Independence Day ,2007.

The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal is one of such an NIT and is rated as one of the top technological universities in India. Since its inception in 1960 as the Karnataka Regional Engineering College, the Institute has established itself as a premier center engaged in imparting quality technological education and providing support to research and development activities. The Institute has a long tradition of research for several decades in both traditional and modern areas of engineering and sciences in all departments. The Institute has been actively involved in applicative research in looking at and resolving problems faced by the society in several areas like environment, water resources, rock mechanics, new structures, VLSI, etc. NITK attracts students from all over the country and abroad. The Institute admits students to the B.Tech degree program on the basis of the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).

Details:
Srishti- The Creation is a development plan competition for the socially conscious young minds. Participants will be designing a feasible entrepreneurial venture that will bring about economic and social development of a natural disaster affected region. With participants from world over, this event seeks to ignite the spirit of social entrepreneurship. Srishti is a part of Engineer -Technical Symposium at NITK-Surathkal. Engineer is the annual technical symposium of National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal.It is a 4 day extravaganza from October 29 to November 1. This year they are celebrating the Golden Jubilee Edition of Think. A team can consist of a maximum of three participants.The team is required to mail a detailed write-up on their proposal in PDF or DOC in less than 20 pages to the email mentioned.

The problem statement can be downloaded from the website given. Based on the problem statement the participants need to us their knowledge and leadership skills and address the issue by introducing a feasible entrepreneurial venture in the natural disasters affected area. The venture must include the inhabitants of the area and respect their land and traditions. You can choose any real region [village/town] in the country of which you are a citizen. The region should have been affected by a natural catastrophe in the last 10 years.
