Theme: “Impact of Current Economic Downturn on Financial Sector and Employment Prospects in India”
The Indian economy has witnessed a healthy growth in last couple of years. However the current global economic downturn has taken a toll on the entire world, India being no exception. Over the last few months, we have witnessed failures of major Financial Institutions in the United States and several European countries. There has also been a co-coordinated efforts by concerned authorities all over the world to contain the impact by infusing liquidity into money markets to reduce interest rates. The governments world over are trying to restore the confidence in their financial systems.
The US supreme mortgage financial crisis spread to rest of financial system in United States, resulting in a significant slowdown in economic growth in the US, Europe and Japan. The crisis which began with the financial sector and spread to the real economy not only in the developed markets but in Asia also.
The efforts are on for bringing significant reforms of the global financial system with Group of Eight (G-8) and major emerging economies like China, India and Brazil coming together
